2007 big 12

Wags started this kind of thing, but since I am the big 12 guy, with Jaytrajik and MaddHatter, I will make this thread, just rank the teams.

1) Texas
2) Nebraska
3) Oklahoma state
4) A&M
5) Missouri
6) OU
7) Texas Tech
8) Colorado
9) Kansas State
10) Kansas
11) Iowa State
12) Baylor

Texas plays Nebraska, and Texas wins.

Big XII 2007 season preview

AHHH my specialty

1. Texas – A healthy McCoy returns with a yr under his belt, Limas Sweed back for his senior season to lead a WR group that could be the best in Mack’s tenure…the LB core also returns intact. Jamaal Charles makes his mark and sees more touches with Selvin gone.

2. Oklahoma – AP gone but OU still boasts a star studded secondary, also Kelly and Johnson return as veteran leaders in the receiver group and Allen Patrick returns for his senior year …. But there still remains a question at QB

3. NebraskaStarting OL from last yr returns with a slew of talent in the backfield (Brandon Jacobs & co)…. Although the entire D-line is departing and the secondary must show some improvement…..with Adam Carriker and Zac Taylor gone the Cornhuskers lack leadership

4. Texas A&M – McGee and Javorskie lead the cast with the running game being their weapon of choice also 6-7 TE Martellus Bennett could be a real threat in the Aggies passing attack …. defense returns 9 starters but will still have trouble with the elite Big XII teams

5. Texas Tech – QB Graham Harrell returns under Leach’s pass happy offense, defense still lacks talent after ranking last among Big XII teams….to add to that Red Raiders have a sub par recruiting class and tough losses with Jarrett Hicks and Joel Filani gone

6. Oklahoma Statefinished poorly last year but built momentum in bowl comeback…playmakers Bobby Reid QB, Adarius Bowman WR and Dantrelle Savage RB all expected to return …. But defense lacks leadership with a lot of young talent.

7. Missouri – Mizzou was weak against the rush with opp. averaging almost 190 yards a game … but the return of QB Chase Daniels and standout TE’s Coffman and Rucker give the Tigers a vaunted Passing attack.

8. Kansas State – freshman QB Josh Freeman returns coming off an upset over Texas and RB Leon Patton who ranked among the Big 12 leaders in all-purpose yardage could evolve into a versatile threat. Defense will be a ? giving up an average of 350 yards a game.

9. Iowa State – Rough yr for the Cyclones but they get UT’s sloppy seconds in Gene Chizik….. also good news 6-6 WR Todd Blythe will return for his senior season and LB Alvin Bowen who led the Big XII in tackles last year.

10. Baylor – could be the most improved team in the conf. the new spread offense should flourish with QB Blake Syzmanski showing some nice potential last yr….. also look for LB Joe Pawlek to become a leader on def…. he led the Bears with 85 tackles as a freshman.

11. Kansas – Best finish for the Jayhawks in a while…but they lose the Big 12's leading rusher, Jon Cornish, as well as 3 offensive linemen…redshirt freshmen QB Kerry Meier showed flashes of brilliance but committed to many turnovers and blew quite a few 2nd half leads.

12. Colorado – the Buffaloes got embarrassed a lot last year and struggled to move the ball thru the air…LB Jordan Dizon returns as the leading tackler for the buffs but unfortunately Colorado’s tarnished image will not be repaired until Coach Dan Hawkins proves he can win.

I did a lot of thinking on grading the Big XII, and because the conference could boast as many as 5 teams in the top 25 with 2 in the top 10….i gave them a B-

We don't get too many Big 12 games on the tube in these parts, other than the top dogs, so I am definitely not up to speed on some of mid-pack Big 12 teams, but here it goes.

1. Texas - IF they shore up the defense
2. Oklahoma - could be champ if they get good QB play.
3. Texas A & M - fairly impressive last year; Cal spanked them badly, but I was really impressed with Cal's talent.
4. Oklahoma State - should be pretty on offense.
5. Nebraska - Could contend if they get a good QB.
6. Texas Tech - until they get a defense, they will not contend.
7. Kansas State - if the young QB develops further, they may do better.
8. Missouri - do they ever win any games on the road?
9. Kansas -Seemed to be competitive last year; not sure who they lose.
10. Baylor - I like Guy Morris;maybe the turn around starts this year?
11. Colorado - What the hell happened to these guys?
12. Iowa State - New coach whose defense underachieved last year will not get it done.

1. Texas
2. Nebraska
3. Oklahoma
4. Texas A&M
5. Missouri
6. Oklahoma State
7. Texas Tech
8. Kansas State
9. Iowa State
10. Colarado
11. Kansas
12. Baylor

Texas is clearly the cream of the crop. Callahan and Nebraska should be improved. Oklahoma is the most overrated team in the country. The middle of the pack ( Texas A&M, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Texas Techand K. State) will all win a good amount of games. The bottom of the conference is as bad as it gets. I'm giving The Big 12 a C+.

"Bottom of the conference is has bad as it gets". Even though colorado gave Georgia all it wanted. I'd put them up against Stanford, or the apple schools. But I do agree with A&M being a dark horse pick.

Hawkins will have Colorado back up to par within a few years. Colorado's incoming recruits look pretty good.

I think Hawkins will have them better, they have a good recruiting class coming in, and some good talent on the team, I think they might make a ok bowl.

I don't know about next season but within a few years. Hawkins is the right man for the job.... I'm amazed how well his recruiting class is coming along.

Big East or Big 10 would be next in line. I also think we should do the WAC, MAC, MWC and C-USA at some point.
