I really want to see him get the chance to start then if things get sour Garcia is a good back up.
One big plus on having a guy like Garcia: Garcia is a self-made player. He has NO noteworthy physical gifts to help him along, he made a solid NFL career through dedication and hard work. A guy like that is always a good role model.

If a guy like Russell approaches the game with the same dedication and preserverance as Garcia, he will be a star.

Agreed.

Do you think the raiders are planning on using him as a starter or a back up though?

Considering the money he is paid... and Davis' fascination with throwing deep... it is Russell's job to lose.

I suspect Garcia is there to replace Walter as the primary back-up.

Garcia sat on the market for weeks, likely thinking he could get a chance to compete to start somewhere. I guess that didn't happen.

I guess 2nd string is better then no one signing him.

Still seems like he should have started somewhere though.

I thin Garcia will do good for the Raiders, but I definately think he will retire after the end of this year....
On another note, I sure did save a lot on my car insurance by switching to Geico...

Garcia won't start unless Russell can't play for some reason. Garcia is back in the situation he was in Philly. They have a starter, he's there to teach

Maybe... This situation kind of makes me think of the Dallas situation though... If neither of last year's starters/star QB's, it won't take more then a couple of weeks to have the #2 in there... And as a Tampa fan, I can tell you that things like this reap havock on team...

As far as for how long Garcia took to come off the FA wire, I think it was more due to the fact that the Raiders were "planning", and I use the term lightly, their draft picks and waiting to see what was going on and who would be where in what round... You could also ask the people in Brown's land what mid season QB switches leads to, though injuries played a larger part in that season's switches...

I think Garcia will be starting before the season is over.

Garcia will be the starter before the pre-season games end. Russell is having a terrible spring and summer. He throws the ball at anyone. His WR's, CB's and Safety's, coaches, just anyone.
