McNair arrested

Uh oh...

Quote:
NASHVILLE, Tennessee (May 10, 2007) -- Baltimore Ravens quarterback Steve McNair was arrested early Thursday and charged with being the owner of a vehicle operated by a drunken driver.

The former Tennessee Titans player was a passenger in his silver pickup truck, police said.

Police said a copy of the arrest report wouldn't be available until later in the day but confirmed McNair was arrested and booked into jail about 3 a.m.

McNair was arrested under a misdemeanor statute that charges the owner if an intoxicated person is allowed to drive a vehicle. Under the law, it doesn't matter if McNair was drinking, only if the driver was impaired, police said.

The driver, whose identity wasn't immediately available, was stopped because the truck was speeding, police said.

"We are aware of the situation, but we're getting most of our information from the media," Ravens spokesman Chad Steele said Thursday. "We've not spoken with Steve, so we're not sure at this time if we will have a statement."

McNair declined to comment when he was released from custody. He was accompanied by a friend, nightclub owner Robert "Big Daddy" Gaddy.

McNair was arrested in downtown Nashville in May 2003 and charged with DUI and illegal gun possession. After a year of legal wrangling, a judge dismissed those charges, ruling police didn't have sufficient reason to pull over McNair in the first place

I doubt this has a huge affect on his career

Man this sounds shady to me. I'd be interested to see what the drivers BAC was... if it was .09 I am calling BS on this arrest.

Me too. But these days, any player getting charged, has to be a little nervous.

The problem McNair has is that he's the face of the offense...he's in a leadership role. What kind of message does this send to the troops in this day and age? Under the league's New World Order?

To me it's a backward ass law. I understand it, and I have lost a very very close friend to a drunk driver so I even respect it. But seriously, isn't this shifting blame? If my friend asks me to drive his drunk ass home... and I am drunk it's on me for driving not him. Considering you are impared, McNair may not have realized his friend was that drunk or drunk at all.

To me it probably played out like this. They were at a bar or party or some such... McNair gets trashed and is about to leave, so his friend that didn't drink very much says hey man you don't need to drive and risk a DWI let me take you home. McNair does the responsible thing and agrees and now he is arrested and his name all over the internet.

My thoughts exactly... I mean when you're a grown man it's hard to tell the difference between when you're at .07 and .09 unless you have a breathalyzer handy. In Texas, McNair wouldn't have been given a ticket or anything, so this sounds like a pretty bull**** law to me.

"Yeah let's put the responsiblity on the person who's impaired for not knowing his friend is impared..."

He plays for the Ravens, not the Titans.

NFL has some issues, i remember when it was the NBA with pot heads and strippers and such, but in the NFL, you kill your wife, hide in a trunk, shoot people, act hardcore in a club and beat someone...etc.

It's amazing, it's why i mainly stick to the NHL, where its at least a tad more respectable...aside from Ed Belfour's drunken billiondollar nights.

I didn't know that McNair was traded to Cincinnati. Isn't that the team in the AFC North that specializes in this sort of thing?

Wow thats a pretty retarded law. It doesnt say McNair was drunk even though he probably was if he let another druck dude drive his truck. The NFL or the Ravens or no one else should do anything to him like suspending or fining him. He wasnt drivin and no one got hurt
