Brady to L. Maroney (7-0 NE) First Quarter, 5:25 remaining - NE - 3-yard touchdown pass, T. Brady to R. Moss (14-0 NE) Second Quarter, 15:00 remaining - MIA - 20-yard field goal, J. Gostkowski (31-11 NE) Fourth Quarter, 5:51 remaining - MIA - 14-yard touchdown pass, C. Pennington to D. Kircus (28-18 NE) Fourth Quarter, 1:26 remaining - NE - 44-yard field goal, S. Gostkowski (34-18 NE) New England Patriots 34, Miami Dolphins 18 New England Stat Leaders Passing: Tom Brady (133.6 rating, 27/34 for 307 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT) Rushing: Laurence Maroney (16 carries for 40 yards, 1 TD) Receiving: Chad Jackson (3 receptions for 69 yards) Defense: Mike Vrabel (11 tackles, 2 for losses) Other Notables Randy Moss, WR (5 receptions for 68 yards, 1 TD) Laurence Maroney, HB (5 receptions 50 yards, 1 TD) D'Qwell Jackson, LB (8 tackles, 1 for loss, 1 pass deflection) Miami Stat Leaders Passing: Chad Pennington (94.7 rating, 24/38 for 285 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT) Rushing: Ronnie Brown (17 attempts for 64 yards) Receiving: Ernest Wilford (7 receptions for 111 yards) Defense: Channing Crowder (10 tackles, 4 for losses, 1 pass deflection) Other Notables Jalen Parmale, HB (6 attempts for 37 yards) Anthony Fasano, WR (6 receptions for 65 yards) David Kircus, WR (5 receptions for 59 yards, 1 TD) Reggie Torbor, LB (7 tackles, 3 for losses) --- You could call this our "easiest" win thus far this season. We stepped out to a quick fourteen point lead in the first quarter. We had the game relatively in hand by the end of the first half, despite ending it on a bad note with the safety. The fact that we came right back out and scored yet again, making it a three touchdown game, really made me confident in the fact that this one was over. The past two games we have had one receiver really burn us with over 100 yards. I suppose as long it is only the one guy and not two or three, we'll be okay. I still think our defense could perform at a higher level. We have a bye week next week, so perhaps we'll make some changes.

I suppose in the "surprising" trade spectrum, this one may fall under "slighty surprising". We reached an agreement with Houston to send cornerback Fernando Bryant to them in return for their third-round draft pick. Although Fernando was our third corner, we are confident that Brandon Meriweather and Terrence Wheatley can step up and do the job. We now have eight picks in the 2009 NFL Draft, including Cleveland's second, Houston's third, Cleveland's fourth, and Chicago's fifth.

Regular Season - Week Five
Sunday, October 5th, 2008 - 4:15pm New England Patriots (3-0) @ San Francisco 49ers (2-2) Out: RT Nick Kaczur (NE) Scoring Summary First Quarter, 2:36 remaining - NE - 6-yard touchdown pass, T. Brady to C. Jackson (7-0 NE) Second Quarter, 12:10 remaining - SF - 45-yard field goal, J. Nedney (7-3 NE) Second Quarter, 4:49 remaining - NE - 3-yard touchdown run, S. Morris (14-3 NE) Third Quarter, 9:35 remaining - NE - 32-yard field goal, S. Gostkowski (17-3 NE) Third Quarter, 6:29 remaining - SF - Team Safety (17-5 NE) Third Quarter, 2:19 remaining - SF - 3-yard touchdown run, F. Gore (17-12 NE) Fourth Quarter, 12:20 remaining - NE - 7-yard touchdown pass, T. Brady to L. Maroney (24-12 NE) Fourth Quarter, 6:29 remaining - NE - 4-yard touchdown pass, T. Brady to R. Moss (31-12 NE) Fourth Quarter, 2:10 remaining - SF - 6-yard touchdown run, D. Foster [2-Point Failed] (31-18 NE) New England Patriots 31, San Francisco 18 New England Stat Leaders Passing: Tom Brady (125.9 rating, 31/39 for 315 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT) Rushing: Laurence Maroney (19 carries for 53 yards) Receiving: Randy Moss (8 receptions for 80 yards, 1 TD) Defense: Adalius Thomas (8 tackles, 1 for loss) Other Notables Sam Aiken, WR (3 receptions for 55 yards) Jabar Gaffney, WR (6 receptions for 51 yards) Wes Welker, WR (4 receptions for 45 yards) Chad Jackson, WR (4 receptions for 35 yards, 1 TD) Chris Gamble, CB (7 tackles, 1 for loss, 1 INT) Mike Vrabel, LB (7 tackles, 4 for losses, 1 sack) San Francisco Stat Leaders Passing: Alex Smith (68.1 rating, 18/31 for 231 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT) Rushing: Frank Gore (17 attempts for 50 yards, 1 TD) Receiving: Vernon Davis (5 receptions for 71 yards) Defense: Patrick Willis (10 tackles, 2 for losses) Other Notables DeShaun Foster, HB (7 attempts for 41 yards, 1 TD) Issac Bruce, WR (5 receptions for 54 yards) Jason Hill, WR (1 reception for 42 yards) --- Looks like Tom Brady is going to have another amazing season with his second straight three touchdown, no interception game. Make that 11 TD's and 0 INT's this season thus far. Our defense has held two straight opponents to eighteen points, even though in this one they technically only gave up sixteen, damn safeties. We improved mightily on third downs, going 11-for-16. We were five-for-five in the Red Zone too, with four touchdowns and a field goal. Overall, a great game. The bad news? RG Stephen Neal broke his hand, which could keep him out eleven weeks. He is the second major injury we've had to deal with on the offensive line, and both were on the right side. Billy Yates is going to start next week alongside Ryan O'Callaghan against the Chargers. Yikes. Expect more tight end and fullback activity on the right side.

Our defense looked tired and they got burned, badly. Even when Philip Rivers went down towards the end of the game (forearm fracture, season ending - by the way), Billy Volek was able to drive his team at least a little bit. Tom Brady was solid and he was only sacked four times despite injuries on the line, but our running game was awful. Rivers spread the ball very well, thinning out our worn-out secondary. Tomlinson took it to our guys up front, breaking off two runs over twenty yards. We will probably see these guys in the playoffs if all goes well, although losing Rivers for the season will hurt them. Either way, it will nice to get back home and get one extra day of rest before we see Denver. We need to see if we can recover from a loss, to a five and one team, no less.

Just as a heads up... If you want, quite possibly the best deal in the entire world in that game... Sign John Lynch back to the Pats, change him from SS, which is what he's listed as, back into a FS, which is what he played in Tampa and he becomes a 96... Food for thought, at the very least you've got some serious talent to either keep for two years, or trade away for a #1 pick from a team like the Fins or Bengals... You're welcome!
As a side note... Why use the up to date roster to start your "quest" ![]()

As far as John Lynch, I currently have Sheldon Brown at free safety, who is a 96 as well. I am satisfied with that. I wouldn't want to trade Lynch away for a first round pick either, as that's not very realistic. Thanks for reading! Around the League coming up eventually.
