New England Patriots Why does Matt Cassel still have a job?

I have a love/hate relationship with pre-season football. I enjoy seeing the rookies bust out. I enjoy seeing familiar players in different positions. I enjoy seeing the 2nd & 3rd string. I am, however a football fan, and I can't stand...Stupid. Matt Castle has absolutely sucked every pre-season game. He has been Brady's "back-up" for the past 3 years. He has been easily out played by both Gutierrez & O'Connell. I was actually kinda pissed when I saw him start tonight. He sucked...again. Almost 3 full quarters and only an Offensive field goal! The offensive game changed as soon as he was out. Not only was a better QB put in..but the O. line responded in turn. I hope Castle doesn't see September.

You wont have to worry...this is cassel's last year under contract , and in no way do the Patriots resign him.

This thread is really funny now that he is all but named the starter for the rest of the year.

He actually mailed in a half decent performance yesterday granted it was against the Chiefs but yes, I agree, you have to love the irony of this thread. You better get used to having “Castle” around Pat fans, because he’s going nowhere anytime soon.

I'm very satisfied with MC's performance thus far. He's done practically everything that's been asked of him. The team's at 5-3 (three-way tie with the Bills and the Jets), with the Bills coming up next.

Things could easily be worse.

^^^I have to agree. He's not playing real well, but he could, and I definately thought he would, play much worse. Not that bad. The team is still in it.

Matt Cassel hasn't started out well but I think he will get used to being the starting QB after a while and will start doing better as long as he's got Randy Moss and Wes Welker backing him up making a good catch!!!

I agree. He's got the targets. He's got a good recieveing back in Faulk(injured?), and decent TE in Watson.

I just cant get over the irony.

I bashed him in august, now I am hoping he plays well enough to get the pats into the playoffs...Heh.

However...last year under contract.

If he sucks and fails to get that pats into the post season, he's gone.

If he plays well enough to get the pats into the post season, he becomes a free agent next year, some team will offer to overpay him..and he's gone.

No problem with him as long as he gets us to the playoffs. He has the targets like everyone said and with all the injuries that keep happening we have to believe in whatever offensive assets we have! ...sorta

The way Cassel is playing right now it looks like he'll be outta New England after this season and gettin paid some big bucks. I'm sure some teams like Detroit would be willing to shell out some money for him.
