Pats 2009 NFL Draft Thread
Current Selections...
* It's the patriots, so the card is subject to change. ![]() #1 Round 1 (23rd overall) #2 2nd Round (34th overall) 2nd round (34) Patriots (From Chiefs) Chung, Patrick SS 5'11" 212 Oregon #3 2nd Round (47th overall) #4 2nd Round (58th overall) #5 3rd Round (89th overall) #6 3rd Round (97th overall) #7 4th Round (124th overall) #8 5th Round (170th overall) #9 6th Round (199th overall) #10 6th Round (207th overall) #11 7th Round (234th overall) The pata have a solid history of doing well at the draft table, and i am hoping the trend continues. I still bitter about the fact that Chad Jackson was a disaster, and perhaps they take another WR at some point. Defense first. Last edited by The Legend Killer : 04-25-2009 at 07:03 PM. |

Cushing Thinks He's Best of Historic Trio --NFL FanHouse
NEW YORK -- It's not everyday you see three players from the same school taken in the first round of the NFL draft. Three linebackers? That's unprecedented territory. The magnitude of the occasion isn't lost on Brian Cushing, who should be one of three rough-and-ready USC linebackers selected in the first round on Saturday. But that doesn't mean he's ready to concede a higher draft slot to former teammates Rey Maualuga and Clay Matthews. |

After next offseason, it will be the start of the "new" New England dynasty... All they did this year was ensure that they would be a top team for the next decade... What do they have next year? Something like 6 2nd round picks... Not even the Cowboys of the 90's had that... All in all, they had a fantastic draft, not so much for this season, but for years to come after that...

FOXBORO - In his prime, Rodney Harrison was a terrifying presence, especially for opposing receivers and backs cutting across the middle. He lurked in the secondary like a prizefighter, waiting for that opening to score with a devastating hit.
The free agent safety, still publicly undecided about his future, brought that element of fear into the equation. Some say that’s what second-round draft pick Patrick Chung, who was introduced yesterday at Gillette Stadium, can provide the Patriots. He brought that same kind of intimidation factor while playing safety at Oregon. What does Harrison think of the Pats’ pick? Via text message, the two-time Pro Bowl safety offered a piece of advice for the kid now considered his likely successor: “Yeah, shut up, listen to the veterans, work hard, and knock someone in the mouth.” Chung, while saying yesterday he didn’t model his game after Harrison, per se, certainly understands the significance of knocking someone in the mouth. “You can strike fear into people. You can change a player’s perspective on the game, but you have to know when to hit also,” said Chung. “I’m not just a big hitter. You have to know when to hit, when to break down, tackle and bring him down, and you have to know when to take your big hits. I’m a smart tackler, but it could change the game. One hit could change the game. It could change the whole offense.” That’s why Chung wouldn’t mind being mentored by one of the finest at disrupting offenses, should Harrison decide to return for another season with the Patriots. “He is one of the best. He can teach me everything he’s learned,” Chung said. “When you learn from the best and you are practicing how the best have practiced, you have no choice but to become a leader and be the best player out there.” Chung, taken 34th overall with the pick gained in the trade that sent Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel to the Kansas City Chiefs, sounded prepared to handle whatever would be thrown on his plate, whether it involved Harrison’s tutelage or not. Chung figures to be in the safety rotation with James Sandersand Brandon Meriweather. His goal is to step in and contribute right away. “I’m going to work hard every day in the weight room, film room, practice field, everything,” Chung said. “Hopefully I get the chance to get on the field and make an impact. Hopefully coach (Bill Belichick) gives me an opportunity and if I do, I’ll be prepared for it and I’ll take full advantage.” Chung felt he was capable of making the leap to the pros with hard work. “The biggest transition is that you have to be smart. Everybody is good on the field and you have to get your edge in the film room,” Chung said. “If you study the film, day in and day out, nighttime and morning, you will eventually get an edge on the players you’re playing against and that’s going to make the game easier. My philosophy is go hard in practice, super hard, until you can’t walk. It makes the game so much easier.” Chung was anxious to get to work, and that’s exactly what will happen today when Belichick gets all of his rookies on the field for double-sessions and minicamp. “I love it (here). I love the mood,” Chung said when asked of his initial impressions. “You can tell it’s a big sports town, and the Patriots are a very good football team and they have been for numerous years, so I’m blessed to be on this team. I’m going to try to make the best impact I can.” Whether it’s knocking people in the mouth, or simply knocking them down. |
