I've seen parts of a couple Va Tech game and they don't look to me to be a legit national championship contender - they just don't appear to have the kind of the talent the top SEC or Big 11 teams have. Maybe they run the ACC and get a national title bid because all the others knock each other off in the real power conferences this year (Auburn beats LSU, LSU beats Florida, Florida beats Georgia, Georgia beats Auburn type of thing).
But come basketball season....... |

I really think next year will be the year of the ACC, remember, all of the Powers in the ACC (Miami, FSU, VT, even Clemson) are very young teams, thats one thing alot of people forget, so this year is a bad year, and for Miami, unless the U starts winning again, they will not be known by me as the Miami Hurricanes, for now, they are known as the Miami Tropical Depressions.

well, next year will be very interesting to say the least. we might have a complete overhaul of head coaches in the acc. some of the guys on either a hot seat or warm seat as i see it, in order:
1. "buntcake" (unc) - i think buntcake is the only one that is DEFINITELY gone by the end of the season, despite the contract extension he got either last year or the year before. 2. coker (miami) - i see coker being canned if he doesn't turn the season around. miami's standards aren't being met, and coker has been slipping since winning the championship. 3. roof (duke) - although it's not really roof's fault, being that he's coaching duke, getting shutout by a div-1aa team is unacceptable for any div-1a school. 4. groh (uva) 5. the fridge (umd) 6. amato (ncsu) those last three are all in pretty much the same boat. they each came into mediocre/floundering programs, built something, peaked, and then quickly subsided back to the lower half of the conference. i feel that each must atleast achieve a winning record to keep his job. in the case of amato, i don't think he'll be going anywhere. he's brought more money to this school than several previous coaches combined. he's also placed more players in the nfl than i believe any other previous coach. amato's winning percentage is one of the best in the history of nc state's coaches. his biggest problem is the media. he is always giving them something to write about. due to his disappointing results the past two seasons, the media is slowly turning on amato. being an ncsu alum and very much in touch with several facets of the program (current students, alumni, big donors, players, coaching staff, training staff), there really is no hot seat for amato in our eyes. there is a warm seat though, but the situation isn't as dire as the media tries to portray it. |

That basketball will save us isn't much comfort for football fans. Oh well... Maybe you're right and we'll see some really good stuff coming out of Virginia Tech this year. At least enough to make some games worth watching.

Va Tech's loss yesterday takes the ACC out of the national title hunt. Miami looked miserable in escaping against Houston. If only GT had held on and beaten ND in week 1, maybe they could be a dark horse in the title hunt. BC and Clemson both took care of business against weak opponents, albeit BC was not impressive.

This has to be one of if not the worst years for the ACC ever. Last year was bad too having a 4 loss FSU win the ACC Championship. Who would have thought Wake Forest would be the last remaining unbeaten team in the ACC!
