Archuleta is a good, albeit limited, player. He is a poor man's John Lynch. Decent in the box against the run, heavy hitter, but poor in coverage. Unlike Lynch though, he is a suspect tackler. Archuleta always seems to go for the human torpedo slobber-knocker hit, which causes him to miss a lot of tackles. That makes him kinda limited in just what he can do for a team.
But one of those places is sitting as a safety in the cover-2, ala the Bears. Being back in zone helps hide his coverage liabilities and his speed (or what is left of it) lets him cover decent ground. Still will blow tackles, but that is why he was up for grabs.
